Explorers

Based in Kiltarlity, the Aird Explorer Scouts Unit is now up and running and ready to go… We run an exciting, varied weekly programme, plus there’s something going on regularly in the region, and nationally, every few months; from weekend Challenge Camps to expeditions, there’s something for everyone.

Inverness district has six local Units and we join with them for challenges and events as often as we can – making lots of new friends along the way.
So what are you waiting for? If you think you can keep up with us, why not come along and find out more?!

Where?
Usually in Kiltarlity at the Village Hall, but we try to get out and about as often as we can – see this term’s programme for more details, or get in touch to find out where we are.
When?
Between 7:30pm and 9:30pm in the Summer and 7:30pm and 9:00pm in Winter, on most Thursday evenings during term time.
As other activities, such as holidays, exams, etc., may crop up in a teenager’s life, Explorers may not always meet every week & Explorer Scouts can be members of more than one unit.
Who can join us?
Explorer Scouting is open to anyone aged between 14 and 18!
Explorer Scouts, the fourth section of the Scout Association in the UK after Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, is made up of young people usually between the ages of 14 and 18; a group of Explorer Scouts is called a Unit.
What do we do?
In Explorer Scouting there is a greater emphasis on getting out and about, especially by attending Regional or National Camps and events. Many activities are provided at a District level, giving the Explorer Scouts a chance to work with others in their District.

Just like in other sections of Scouting, Explorer Scouts take part in a balanced programme (gaining skills, badges and awards) and may also work towards gaining the Queen’s Scout Award, which is the highest Scouting Award in The Scout Association, and/or the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

We often team up with the Aird Scout Troop to help run events, or to take part in joint activities.
Some Explorer Scouts volunteer as Young Leaders, providing support as part of the leader team for the junior sections; there are currently five young leaders helping in the other sections at Kirkhill and Aird.
